EARN A SPOT ON TEAM MISSOURI

At this time we are planning on taking (1) GRECO Team and (2) Freestyle Teams.    Wrestlers earn a spot on the team by placing 1st or 2nd at the Missouri USA Freestyle and Greco-Roman State Championship.  It is possible that we will field a 2nd Greco Team if there is enough interest.  The Champion and 2nd Place Finishers are guaranteed to represent Team Missouri in the respective style of which they placed for roughly half the matches.  That means the coaching staff will manage all of the athletes for the duration of the tournament and wrestlers may or may not wrestle ALL of the matches in a given style.   The Team Leader and Coaching Staff will also have the opportunity to select alternates and manage the wrestlers in the best interest of the team as the first priority and also  in the interest of the individual wrestlers.   I would project that there will be spots for 3rd-6th place finishers from the Missouri State Freestyle and Greco Tournament as well.  Each Roster has 27 spots and only 18 wt classes.  This means I can add (9) extra wrestlers to each roster.  See this document for a detailed explanation regarding the management of the teams on the floor and in the exhibition room.

NO ONE is on the team until verbal or email confirmation from Drew Lilledahl.  Please do not book rooms if you are not on the team.  There is an "Exhibition Match" area upstairs from the Main arena floor.  Our goal this year is to take 2 competitive squads and take full advantage of the exhibition area in order to maximize the development of our Schoolboy aged teams.  We will probably take about 40-45 athletes.  You do not have to "win" schoolboy state to be on the team.  The coaching staff will determine if the applicants are qualified to be team members. COST OF TRIP

The price of the trip is set at $500, and there is a t-shirt fundraiser opportunity for wrestlers to take advantage of to offset cost.  This price typically includes:

Meals & Lodging & clinicians @ our Training Camp(s)  Times & dates TBD (tentative- June 1-3rd)

Transportation and Meals and Lodging for our trip to Indianapolis, IN  June 12-16, 2019

Gear Package Consisting of: ¼ zip, 5 t-shirts, 2 shorts, (2) socks, meshback ball cap, laundry bag and a set of 2 singlets ( 1 red and 1 blue)

Team Entry Fees are also included in the price at $750 per team per style, which costs MOUSA wrestling $3000 to bring 2 teams. That works out to be about $70 per kid, assuming 40-45 kids total.

  • Last year we filled our roster spots with extras and those boys, as well as some of our starters took advantage of the “exhibition room”.  All in all those boys wrestled a total of 155 extra exhibition matches (about ½ in Freestyle and half in Greco)  that Team Missouri would not have otherwise wrestled.  Also, you better check your ego at the exhibition room door because I saw kids that were Trinity award winners, as well as kids I knew wrestled overseas in that exhibition room getting matches!  #Just wrestle!
